Guest Designer - Karen

Image
Today we introduce our Guest Designer for the October Challenge please say hello to Karen from  Karen's Crafting Obsessions who won the challenge back in August. "I have always been creative, drawing and knitting then sewing as a child and young adult. I was taught how to knit and sew by my Mum, my Nan and my Aunts. As a child, I loved to draw a lot, but had to stop when I picked my O Level subjects. I love colour and pretty patterns and went from hoarding fabric to acquiring then hoarding pretty patterned paper. That obsession led me to card making and that in turn led me to stamping.   I have created greeting cards for more than twenty years and I started because I couldn't find a card that I liked for my husband.  For the past four to five years I have been intrigued and then obsessed with mixed media.  I particularly love to create mixed media canvases and home decor items. I love mixed media and learning new techniques and skills with some of the ...

DT Spotlight Tutorial - Zahraa

Image
Hello Zahraa here with a tutorial on how to make a vintage card.  Fabric designs and colours have been a huge inspiration to me lately. For this card I wanted to mimic a piece of embossed vintage velvet that I had seen. How fun to translate designs into  something real for me as a paper crafter.  Step one: Paint a piece of recycled card stock with a thin layer of Gesso and talc powder. Try and paint in two directions to create texture. Step two: Use three colours of distress oxide and black acrylic paint and paint over the 'gessoed' piece. Notice how the gesso texture really comes alive when you add colour to it. I started with touches of black paint first, then added distress oxides in selected areas. Step three: Leave the ink to dry and then emboss a pattern onto the card stock piece using an embossing folder and your machine. The pattern doesn't look like much until the next step.  Step four: Use your black ink pad and lightly sw...

Hello, Zowie here with a quick tutorial on how to create a vintage nostalgic Christmas Postcard.  To start, I chose these beautiful papers to adhere to a tag that I made from plain white card stock measured at 5.5" x 3.5" * Wood design-  Wild at heart paper stash * Digital music  sheet-  LaBoutiqueDeiColori * Vintage Reindeer image-  GraphicMarketplace Next, I used a North Star and two Reindeer metal dies along with Kraft card stock. I distressed the edges with Vintage Photo Distress ink and created some small white decoration on the Reindeer's body. I have also embossed the star with a embossing folder.  Medium Reindeer - Xcut mini die  Small Reindeer - Marianne Design Christmas village decoration set  Star die - Xcut mini die   Snowflake embossing folder - Crafters Companion Vintage collection Finally I printed out the words 'Merry Christmas' on to white cardstock and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  Hope tha...

Today we introduce our guest Designer  Please say hello to Zvezdana Rot also known as Veana R. Hi crafters! I am Zvezdana Rot, aka VEANA R. and I live in a Mediterranean town in Slovenia   - the only country in the world that has the word LOVE in its own name. Let's stay in love.... I love my garden, where colorful flowers inspire my creativity and I love reading, because one life for me is not enought, but most of all I love crafting. I started four years ago with making greeting cards and than last year discovered Mix-Media, a blessing for my soul!  Last June I started writing a Blog, arranging in house a studio for crafting and 'till now participating in three Design Teams.I like all the styles and I have not decided yet for one, but my favorite is Mix Media. I wish you a lot of wonderful moments when crafting, and I hope you like my shiny Halloween tag.                                 Ther...

Today we introduce our guest Designer for the September challenge. Please say hello to Karen Sessions from  Art and Soul  who won the challenge back in July    Karen Sessions is from Southern California but lived in England, United Kingdom with her husband for fourteen years before recently returning to California.    Her loves for the past 12 years have been scrapbooking and card making but she also explores mixed media because she adores rubber stamping.    Karen describes her creative style as very intricate, full of textures, and embellished with a feminine flare.  She explains that she loves to focus on the tiny details that add richness and impact to the project by choosing embellishments and colors that bring a sense of cohesion.   Karen added, "The process of creating brings me great joy and the result is magical and irreplaceable."    Creating is her passion and when you see her projects, it will be obvious in every li...
